Estoics i esc\u00e8ptics<\/em> (1913) \u00e9s un text cl\u00e0ssic en la hist\u00f2ria de la filosofia hel\u00b7len\u00edstica que va obrir el debat sobre les fonts estoiques del pensament de Pau de Tars i els inicis del cristianisme. Edwyn Bevan va negar el vincle entre l\u2019escepticisme grec i la tradici\u00f3 hind\u00fa i mostr\u00e0 com, malgrat que el triomf de les idees cristianes result\u00e0 fatal per al m\u00f3n cl\u00e0ssic, el providencialisme hel\u00b7len\u00edstic i en especial el concepte estoic de kathekonta<\/em> (les coses apropiades o els deures) empeltaren la cosmovisi\u00f3 cristiana.
\nA aquestes demandes els estoics i els epicuris hi donaren resposta des de diferents angles, per\u00f2 tenint sempre com a objectiu la consecuci\u00f3 de la impertorbabilitat pr\u00f2pia del savi, l'ataraxia<\/em>.
\nRobert Hicks analitza minuciosament aquests sistemes partint dels textos que ens han arribat fins avui, donant una visi\u00f3 de la filosofia hel\u00b7len\u00edstica on tamb\u00e9 hi \u00e9s incl\u00f2s l'escepticisme i la seva dissoluci\u00f3 posterior en l'eclecticisme.<\/p>\n
